About Us
RelWare has been at the forefront of healthcare IT innovation for three decades.
We began in 1992 as Reliance Microsystems (RelMicro), offering network consulting and custom application development. Our early success led to a groundbreaking collaboration with General Motors Corporation to deliver a secure, web-based document-sharing solution—pioneering secure digital collaboration.
In 1996, we partnered with the Sisters of Mercy Health System in Farmington Hills, Michigan, to develop the first-known web-based Clinical Data Repository—an early forerunner of today’s Electronic Health Record (EHR). This milestone prompted our evolution into Reliance Software Systems (RelWare) in 1998. From the ground up, we built and launched CDR-Web, the first commercial web-based Clinical Data Repository, quickly adopted by several hospitals across Michigan as their core platform for accessing patient information.
Our dedication to web technologies and innovation continues to define us. In 2004, in partnership with the Henry Ford Health System (HFHS), we developed EXR (CPNG), one of the most advanced web-based EHR systems of its time—Meaningful Use certified for both inpatient and outpatient care—and deployed it system-wide across all Henry Ford hospitals, units, and practices. This platform was powered by X2A2 our proprietary application engine, which earned Microsoft’s approval for data center deployment after a rigorous code review.
In 2012, after more than a decade serving hospitals and health systems, we restructured and introduced openAirWare, extending our capabilities to Health Information Networks and Physician Organizations. openAirWare became the technical arm of the SouthEast Michigan Health Information Exchange (SEMHIE), as well as delivering key services to the Michigan Health Information Network (MiHIN). We are proud to say that we were also instrumental in MiHIN’s Statewide Lab Notification and their Medication Reconciliation systems.
Our drive to empower patients led to the creation of PhysBee, a patient-owned personal health record system with advanced CCD document ingestion and interpretation. From this innovation, we developed Alchemy, a transformative engine for clinical data interoperability, enabling seamless data exchange in any format. Alchemy now serves as the foundational engine for PIVOT, a solution developed in partnership with Clinical Architecture. Alchemy feeds Arcana, our scalable population health registry capable of managing data and allowing reporting for entire nations.
Now in 2025, and entering our third decade of delivering IT solutions to the healthcare sector, we’ve come full circle. We’re reintroducing ourselves with a renewed focus and a simplified name:
RelWare — Innovation. Integrity. Impact.
